A couple of weeks ago I was invited to attend the Scandi Design Tour 2017 together with other bloggers from Europe, organised by Georg jensen and Fredericia Furniture.
On the second day of these two day we visited the Georg Jensen HQ in Copenhagen. Senior vp of design Nicholas Marville held a craftmamship tour in their smithy. He told us about the process of making the most aestheticly beautiful and perfectly crafted silver pieces by silversmeths who are specially trained in a four year Georg Jensen apprenticeship. I just found it very exciting and fascinating to get ‘behind the scene’ and get a peek into the process of the silversmiths work with their many tools.
Likewise we saw a part of how the famous Torun Bangle designed by the talented Swedish Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübeis is crafted. We even tried some of the working procedures in the process by ourself guided by a silversmith. I loved to try the feeling of sewing in the beautiful silver piece and to sense the structur of the material in my hands. It was really an amazing experience.
Lastly we visited their Design Lab where we met the famous designer Aurélien Barby who designed their newly launched cocktail collection Sky. It was pretty awesome to hear the story of how the organic shapes in the collection came to live in a process and to see the amount of prototyping that goes into the design of a single product.
